Hog Hunting Alabama

“How do people really feel about wild hogs??”

As I’m writing this, I find myself filled with excitement and anticipation! You see, being a northerner from Indiana, we currently don’t have any ferrel hogs in our local area…but southern Alabama does! Myself and Marty from Total Outdoor Pursuit are meeting up with 2 guys who won our most recent hog hunt giveaway. As I’m packing and planning for an 11 hour drive south in search of sweet swine, I find myself asking this question…

Who’s more excited about these wild hog hunts? – The farmers or the hunters?

After having tons of conversations with farmers and land owners in the south, i’t s easy to conclude that they want them all wiped out. They might be bacon lovers, but these farmers and ranchers are haters of the nuisance creatures that root and tear everything up! I can only imagine how upsetting it can be for cattle and horses breaking legs from ruts and holes. Also the fences and the fields getting tore up! You can often feel the ranchers’ blood pressure rise just talking about the matter.

As a “hoosier hunter”, I’ve heard other guys say they wished we had hogs in our backyard like those lucky Texans! 🙂 Well, if you’re a northern hunter, you might want to reconsider saying that around a farmer…

How do wild hogs effect the deer and turkey population?

Hunters from the north haven’t experienced the devastation ferrel hogs can have on the whitetail deer and turkey population. Some people might not realize that a wild boar can easily take out the newborn fawns and eat the eggs from a hen turkey nest. Between the snakes, coons, opossums, hawks, eagles, and much more, we already have a battle to fight with these “nest raiders”!

How is the Wild Hog Population?

Most ranchers will agree that it’s becoming nearly impossible to keep the hog population under control. As they breed like mad, they can quickly take over a huge plot of land! Thanks to new technology, we are able to trap and hunt more successfully than in the past, but we still have a battle with this rapidly growing piggy population!

To answer the 1st question mentioned above? Who’s more excited for our upcoming hog hunts, the farmers or the hunters?? I’m going to say it’s equal. The farmers love our help in hunting them and we love the opportunity to hunt them for the reasons listed below…

Wild Hog Population

Here’s why we love wild hog hunting…

Hog hunting for us is more than harvesting the game and the thrill of the hunt.

  • It’s about camaraderie and being with “hunting buddies” to make memories.
  • It’s about learning new things and becoming better hunters.
  • It’s about the food and crazy wild game recipes after the hunt.
  • It’s about sharing the experiences and adventures with hunters.
  • and much much more…

So, if you’re a farmer, rancher, or land owner with a hog problem and are looking for some fun and some times successful dudes to come help you with your hog problem, don’t hesitate and feel free to reach out to us:)!

Happy Hunting,
